Southampton Clock tower (demo) Info
Lyrics
Southampton clock tower rose above the night
Its magic, measured sweep
circled too swiftly to keep.
Southamptom clock tower never seemed as bright
as when its face burned through the mist
like the flush of our first kiss.
For once our future seemed alright
And I would pick you every flower
Growing under Southampton clock tower.
Southampton clock tower oversaw our lives,
pulled us closer as we walked.
We stayed up all night and talked.
Were we only sleep deprived?
Our clockwork hearts ran out of power -
unwound by Southampton clock tower.
Southampton clock tower, I hate that fucking thing,
from every pavement in this place,
I look up and see your face.
Now every passing second stings.
And it gets darker every hour
I stare at Southampton clock tower.
No escape from Southampton clock tower.
Story
I recorded this at night on a powerbook, using the in-computer mic. The whirring noise is the computer fan. This was just to give some bandmates an idea of how the song should go.
It was written as an extension of a rant on a messageboard about a bad breakup by a British woman named “imaginary mice.” That rant is here: http://www.barbelith.com/topic/17643#post344632
I really know nothing about her other that she hates Southampton clock tower, but based on my own life, I think I know a little bit about why.
