angels watch over me Info
Lyrics
Predestination must have played a perfect part in the way
they each took a piece of my heart.
Transubtantiation couldn’t bring them any closer – a
guiding hand must have moved them from above.
And the seraphim were singing on that one night in
October…
The smell of cinnamon still makes me think of angel eyes.
And Raphael was winging as we traded favorite flavors…
There’s a sad uncertain smile now when I look into the
skies, 'cause
(CH:)
Angels… watch over me.
I’m in love with things I can’t see.
Girls come, but they always leave.
Angels watch over me.
And all I’m left with is a handful of feathers.
And Heaven never seemed to be so far away
as the day each one said we’d never fly together –
I wish them all the best, but I wish each one would stay.
And the seraphim were singing on that one night in
October…
The smell of cinnamon still makes me think of angel eyes.
I heard the horn of Gabriel as we studied our biology
but now that school is over, she fades into the skies,
'cause
(CH:)
Angels… watch over me.
I’m in love with things I can’t see.
Girls come, but they always leave.
Angels watch over me.
Story
This song was written in a rock quarry in Connecticut, where I had to kill a day waiting for someone during a road trip to Vermont. It was partially inspired by the song “Raphael” by Hugh Blumenfeld, and partially by my Catholic school upbringing. Plus, of course, I stole a lyric from the title of a Sebadoh song.
This version is also my first solo studio recording, at Sound Wave Studios in Key Largo.
