listen to the water Info
Lyrics
Story
OK, this is a song from the Dread Winter of 1993, during which I actually spent lots of time hanging out in the concrete culvert of what looked like a storm drain near my college apartment, but was actually a body of water officially named “Tumbling Creek” that wound unhappily through the outer reaches of the Gainesville student ghetto. Burbling from the nearby park through the ditches and pipes under my street, with the occasional minnow or strand of algae surfacing and speeding away, that creek totally looked like it was yearning to be free. It reminded me of how much I’d rather be sailing, like I used to, when I was a kid.
This is also one of the first songs I recorded on a 4-track, and probably the first I ever converted to a digital format – a .wav file that some intrepid souls on a local BBS actually downloaded and listened to back in the mid-90s.
